Suitability for Activities

of this model of Rodby Treadmill

The estimated suitability of the skate treadmill for practitioners, based on the length and width of the treadmill belt, is graded as follows. Optimal: The treadmill is exceptionally well-suited for the practitioner’s chosen activities in terms of both length and width. Very Good: The treadmill is highly suitable, with excellent compatibility in terms of length and width. Good but Not Optimal: The treadmill is suitable for the practitioner’s activities, but there might be minor compromises in terms of length or width. When the treadmill is intended for use across multiple sports activities, it is recommended to consider the least common denominator for both length and width, if possible. These suitability estimates are applicable for practitioners ranging from at least experienced level up to elite level. They are provided to assist you in selecting the appropriate size of the treadmill based on insights gained from previous treadmill installations and feedback from users.

Optimal for testing. RL4500E can be used in test labs and sports centers for physiological testing and evaluation for a variety of activities and in many countries. The treadmill size is optimal for tests with the different techniques of roller skiing, running, bicycling, wheelchair, inline skating, and pair roller skiing. However, for activities such as sprinting and pair bicycling, where longer space may be preferred, we would recommend considering a longer Rodby treadmill.

Rollerski Skate

Roller skiing skate style on roller skis

Suitability Treadmill and Rollerski skate 100%
Rullskidor skate

Optimal combination of skate treadmill and activity. The RL4500E in its three different widths—2500, 2700, and 3000 mm—is an excellent choice for practicing roller skiing in the skate technique. Practicing on the treadmill offers several benefits, including technical practice with follow-up, which is crucial for a practitioner aiming to become skilled in the skating technique. The ability to design customized tracks and practice various gears during a session or at different angles is practically impossible in outdoor settings. The treadmill provides a simple, time-saving, and efficient solution for such training.

Rollerski Biathlon

Biathlon skate skiing technique on roller skis

Suitability Treadmill and Biathlon Rollerski 100%
Rullskidor skidskytte

Optimal combination of skate treadmill and activity. The RL4500E in its three different widths—2500, 2700, and 3000 mm—is excellent for biathlon, which exclusively uses the skate technique. Biathlon, being a combination sport, relies on the rider's ability to reduce heart rate for shooting accuracy and maintain competitive speed in the tracks. The treadmill's pulse control is a crucial tool for optimizing fleet and energy-efficient skating. It also aids in practicing skating at maximum capacity for the final sprint lap before the finish line.

Rollerski Double-poling

Classic skiing double-poling technique on roller skis

Suitability Treadmill and Rollerski Double-poling 100%
Rullskidor stakning

Optimal combination of skate treadmill and activity. The RL4500E in its three different widths—2500, 2700, and 3000 mm—is excellent for roller skis double-poling practice. Double poling has become a distinct discipline, especially in competitions like the Ski Classics international long-distance cross-country skiing cup, where the elite exclusively employs double-poling. In cross-country skiing, mastering the right pole technique on varying uphill angles is crucial. Achieving the correct torso positioning, upright body posture, and maintaining balance when shifting the center of gravity forward and upward with stretched legs and raised heels are essential. Transmitting force from body weight and core muscles down through the poles requires precise technique. The treadmill offers unique opportunities to practice various elements of double-poling. A safety belt provides extra security, enabling practitioners to approach balance points with confidence. To excel at double-poling, dedicated practice on both flat and uphill angles is necessary. The treadmill facilitates the development of safe movement patterns that practitioners can naturally switch between when skiing on a track. For skiers aiming for long-distance cross-country skiing, where double-poling dominates, a treadmill becomes a valuable training tool.

Rollerski Diagonal

Classic skiing diagonal technique on roller skis

Suitability Treadmill and Rollerski Diagonal Technique 100%
Rullskidor diagonal

Optimal combination of skate treadmill and activity. The RL4500E, available in three different widths—2500, 2700, and 3000 mm—is excellent for practicing with roller skis in the diagonal technique of classic cross-country style. Classic cross-country skiing on roller skis has evolved, with an increased emphasis on double-poling on flat and moderate inclines (as discussed earlier). However, the diagonal style technique, or gear, remains essential for uphill sections, ranging from moderately steep to challenging inclines. The treadmill's elevation capabilities, ranging from 0 to 14° (0-25%), make it well-suited for practicing and refining all styles (gears) of the classic cross-country technique. Despite the classic diagonal style being as old as skiing itself, it continues to evolve. In steep uphill skiing, there is a trend toward employing a swifter movement pattern with a running technique where the foot moves in a circle, similar to a cyclist, and the ski does not slide with each step. This running technique's effectiveness lies in the leg muscles working with larger, less static movements and a lighter, more even load. Exercising with regular running shoes and ski poles provides a way to simulate this running technique on the treadmill, enabling practitioners to adapt to the evolving trends in classic cross-country skiing.

Ski Mountaineering Skimo

Training ski alpinism SKIMO or randonnée walking with skis uphill

Suitability Treadmill and Skimo 100%
Skimo Ski Mountaineering

Perfectly optimal combination of skate treadmill and activity. The RL4500E treadmill is exceptionally well-suited for training and testing in ski mountaineering (Skimo). Skimo training involves using authentic skimo skis with fitted ski skins, real ski boots, and genuine ski poles with Rodby's model karda pole tips. For Skimo training and tests, Rodby's skate treadmill belt can be elevated up to 14° (25%). If a steeper ascent is desired, the Extra elevation 20° (36%)" option is available. This setup allows the exerciser to fully simulate the sub-moments of ski mountaineering while walking and skiing uphill. The treadmill provides a platform for improving performance through various training benefits, including accurate measurement of ability and progress, VO2max and lactic acid threshold training, repeatability between training sessions, heart rate control, and customized "tracks" that simulate competition tracks in Skimo. The RL4500E's versatility and features make it an ideal choice for skiers looking to enhance their skills and overall performance in ski mountaineering.

Running

Running, racewalking and walking

Suitability Treadmill and Running 100%
Löpning

Optimal combination of skate treadmill and activity. The RL4500E in its three different widths 2500, 2700 and 3000 mm is excellent for running training. Rodby treadmills are equipped with special alloy aluminum sheets as the gliding base for the belt so that the feeling for the runner will mimic outdoor running on hard gravel roads. The treadmill's width and large running surface make it easy to perform running analyzes to correct and improve running technique. The treadmill control system is equipped with heart rate control and works very effectively for interval training. Quick distance, intervals, threshold and lactic acid training, VO2 max running are some of the many benefits a treadmill brings.

Bicycle

All kinds like road, mountain or track bicycling

Suitability Treadmill and bicycling 95%
Cykel

Very good combination of skate treadmill and activity. A treadmill provides a much more realistic training environment, partly because the bike's vertical angle to the ground is not static as it is on ordinary training bikes that stand on a floor. This advantage is perhaps most prominent in the uphill and sprint when the cyclist rocks from side to side. And partly, the cyclist can train with his own bike and lessen the risk of impinging incorrect movement patterns on a floor-placed training bike. Rodby skate treadmills can be equipped with the optional Rodby Max Top speed upgrade which allows the treadmill to roll up to 70 km/h. The Skate Treadmill RL4500E in its three different widths 2500, 2700 and 3000 mm works very well for bicycling but we recommend a belt length of 4500 mm or longer. For safety and to provide margin forward and backward when increasing speed, uphill training and braking.

Wheelchair

Inlines

Very good combination of skate treadmill and activity. The RL4500E in its three different widths 2500, 2700 and 3000 mm works very well for training on inline skates. Inline skiing takes place at fairly high speeds, so if completely optimal conditions are sought, a longer treadmill is recommended for safety and to provide a margin forwards and backwards.

Pair Training

Two practitioners simultaneously on roller skis or inlines

Suitability Treadmill and Pair Training 90%
Parträning

Very good combination of skate treadmill and activity. Pair training on skate treadmills requires experienced practitioners and good teamwork skills. Both the length of the treadmill but also its width affect the degree to which safe and good training can be performed. The RL4500E is long enough but we would recommend a 3000 mm wide treadmill.

Sprinting

Sprint training on bicycle, roller skis or inlines

Suitability Treadmill and Sprinting 90%
Sprint spurt

Very good combination of skate treadmill and activity. If the training includes fast speed changes, sprints and sprints, the RL4500E is a very good choice. This is both for the rider's safety and to provide a realistic riding experience. This is especially true if the practitioner is a cyclist. A longer treadmill provides a more compliant experience without the practitioner having to worry about the belt edge.

Pair Bicycling

Two bicyclists simultaneously using the treadmill

Suitability Treadmill and Pair Bicycling 90%
Parcykling

Very good combination of skate treadmill and activity. Riding a bicycle on a treadmill requires experienced practitioners and a good ability to work together. Treadmill installed in pit

Rodby provides the flexibility to adapt the treadmill to the specific location and circumstances. All skate treadmills can be installed in an installation pit, ensuring that the treadmill's belt is only about 15 cm above floor level. However, it's important to note that installation in a pit requires a room that is specifically tailored for the skateband.

Stående på golvet.

Treadmill installed on the floor

The least intrusive installation method involves placing the treadmill directly on the floor. In this configuration, the treadmill's belt will be approximately 75 cm above the floor level when it is in the start position and not elevated. This method minimizes the need for room adaptation or intervention.

Pulse Control is standard

Rodby treadmills come equipped with Control System 2.0, featuring Pulse Control of belt speed as a standard feature. Pulse control requires a connected pulse band or pulse clock with Bluetooth® capability. This functionality enables users to set a target pulse (Target Pulse), and the control system automatically adjusts the speed of the belt to attain the user's desired pulse rate. This feature proves highly beneficial when aiming to stay within a specific pulse range for various training objectives, such as endurance training, fat burning, aerobic exercise, anaerobic exercise, or interval training. It provides users with a precise and controlled means of maintaining their desired cardiovascular intensity throughout their workout.

Track Simulation GPX is standard

Rodby treadmills equipped with Control System 2.0 offer an import function for GPX files created by a GPS device. This feature enables users to exercise on a simulated track, providing an excellent means to prepare for a race and train under conditions nearly identical to the real track. Utilize the Track Simulation GPX for your preferred home track in the forest or a competition track such as a marathon or the Vasaloppet. This functionality enhances the training experience, allowing for targeted and race-specific preparations.

Auto Positioning as Option

Rodby treadmills with Control System 2.0 can be enhanced with the Auto Positioning option. Auto Positioning enables the treadmill control system to utilize a stereoscopic motion sensor to read the position of the person training on the belt. It automatically adjusts the belt speed: increasing when the user moves closer to the front of the belt and decreasing when the person moves further back on the belt. This unique feature allows the practitioner to control the treadmill speed based on their own pace during the exercise. The stereoscopic motion sensor is sophisticated enough to discern the center point of the trainee while disregarding any equipment, such as swinging arms, poles, bicycles, wheelchairs, framerunners, and even outsiders entering the motion sensor's field of view. This ensures a personalized and responsive training experience, adapting to the user's position on the treadmill.
